A porcelain brewer with 400 years of history

Made of minoware clay, the Origami Dripper carries 400 years of history of minoware production of the Gifu region, famous for its washi paper and pottery.

Minoware is a ceramic-making technique some 400-500 years old and only a few dozen artisans left in Japan still know the craft. By purchasing a Origami Dripper, you are bringing this rich tradition into your coffee brewing routine.

Excellent Brewer compatible with both wave and conical style filters

Made with high density clay, the Origami has excellent heat retaining properties. When used with the conical filter, the 20 folds encourages faster brew time by enabling faster airflow. When used with a wave style filter, it can be used as a flatbed brewer.

A 3oz Mino ware espresso cup and saucer, sized for a single or double shot or a macchiato, with a dense porcelain body that keeps the shot warm on its way to the table.

The ORIGAMI 3oz Espresso Cup and Saucer Set pairs ORIGAMI’s 3oz porcelain espresso cup with its matching saucer. Made in Japan in the Mino ware tradition, the cup holds 90ml when full, enough for a single or double shot, a ristretto, or a macchiato marked with a little microfoam.

How the ORIGAMI Espresso Cup Serves the Shot

A double shot sits comfortably in the cup with room left under the rim, so the crema holds as a thick, even layer instead of stretching across a wide surface. 

A wider diameter allows latte art for a 3oz macchiato. The low height lets you bring a small pitcher spout close to the crema, so you can set a spoonful of microfoam or a small heart on the shot without breaking through it.

The cup belongs to the same ORIGAMI barista line as the 6oz, 8oz, and 10oz latte bowls and shares their handle design, so a bar stocked with espresso cups and milk drinks across several sizes handles the same way during service.

Mino Ware Porcelain

The cup is high-density Mino ware porcelain, part of a ceramic tradition with roughly 400 years of history in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture. It is fired for 12 hours at 2750°F. The dense body is durable enough for daily bar service and holds heat well, so a preheated cup keeps the shot warm after it is served.

Serving with the Espresso Cup and Saucer

Preheat the cup with hot water, pull a single or double shot directly into it, and serve it on the saucer. For a macchiato, mark the shot with a small amount of microfoam. The 90ml capacity leaves room for it without crowding the rim.

The matching saucer is sized for the espresso cup, with a recessed center for the cup and enough rim to hold a demitasse spoon or a sugar cube alongside it.

The cup is heat resistant up to 120°C (248°F) and safe in the microwave and dishwasher.

•      Compact mouth: The 72mm rim keeps the crema concentrated, and the low profile lets you bring a small pitcher close when marking a macchiato.

•      Shared handle: The handle matches the ORIGAMI 6oz, 8oz, and 10oz latte bowls, so cups across the bar feel the same in hand.

The Porcelain Surface

Each cup is glazed porcelain fired through a long kiln cycle. Depending on the color and the production run, the glaze can show fine texture or small pinholes, a natural result of how porcelain behaves in the kiln. Size and shape vary slightly from piece to piece for the same reason.
