Suprima Instruments SD-1R
Regular price $45.00 Save $-45.00The Suprima SD-1R Coffee Dripper, short for Suprima Dripper One Rapid, is an evolution of the original SD-1 - engineered not as a replacement, but as a complementary option with enhanced brewing speed and versatility. It retains the SD-1’s core semi-immersion brewing method while introducing a faster flow rate, giving users greater control over variables such as grind size, water temperature, and pouring technique.

Developed by two-time Indonesia Brewers Cup Champion Hiro Lesmana, is designed around three core principles: consistency, repeatability, and durability. Its low-maintenance build makes it ideal for both home brewers and professional brew bars alike.
The original SD-1 Dripper features a unique negative channel geometry that promotes consistent drainage and minimizes clogging, enabling a smooth, controlled extraction. Its base includes an externally indented ring, designed to ensure a stable fit on a wide variety of servers and carafes.
Key design modifications include a more compact form factor and a steeper 48° cone angle, optimizing flow dynamics and expanding the range of viable brewing parameters - especially for those seeking shorter brew times or finer grind settings.
The SD-1R is compatible with regular creped conical filters, including Hario V60-01, Cone Small, and ORIGAMI 2-cup size filters. To support optimal performance, a custom Ruler tool is included to guide users in folding these standard filters into the precise shape needed for the SD-1R. The Ruler also doubles as a compact holder, ideal for travel or small brewing spaces.
In the early stages of brewing, water flows quickly through the bed, mimicking the characteristics of drip or percolation methods. As the brew progresses, due to the steeper vertical angle, the flow remains consistent and efficient.
The dripper's smooth interior allows the filter paper to cling closely to its walls when wet, significantly reducing channeling—one of the primary causes of uneven extraction. To further enhance performance, it utilizes negative channels that help maintain consistent airflow and reduce clogging during drawdown.
Externally, a series of concentric ribs provides added stability, allowing the SD1 to sit securely on a wide range of brewing vessels, from mugs to carafes. Made from durable, food-grade polycarbonate and available in a variety of stylish colors, the SD1 is built to withstand daily use while adding visual appeal to any brewing setup.
Built with precision and adaptability in mind, the SD-1R expands the Suprima Instruments lineup with a faster, more flexible brewing option - while maintaining the thoughtful design principles that define the SD-1.

Notes on recipe for SD-1R by Hiro Lesmana
SD1R Basic Starting Recipe
The SD1R is made for brewing enthusiasts: those who love to experiment with different styles, methods, and variables.
It works on the same semi-immersion principle as the SD1, but with a smaller form and a faster flow rate.
The SD1R performs best with 9–15g of coffee, though my personal sweet spot is 13–14g of coffee to 210ml of water.
Because of its faster drawdown, both three-pour and four-pour methods work beautifully with the SD1R.
If you’ve chosen the SD1R, chances are you already enjoy exploring your own recipes and that’s exactly what this dripper was designed for. It’s highly versatile, responsive, and ready for whatever brewing style you want to create.

Colors of actual products might show up slightly different than in the product photos. This is due to the various settings of monitors. Every monitor or mobile display has a different capability to display colors, and every individual may see these colors differently. In addition, lighting conditions at the time the photo was taken can also affect an image's color.
Products that have a shimmering coating will also show differently under different lighting setup. Colors might appear different even under a fluorescent light or a warmer shade bulb.
