A Mino ware porcelain stand that holds your chasen upright to dry, so the tines keep their shape from one bowl of matcha to the next
A chasen whisks best when its tines are evenly spaced and curled. Bamboo is at its softest straight after whisking, and a wet whisk left on its side or set down tines first dries with flattened or splayed tines. Once that shape drifts, the whisk aerates less evenly, and a fine, tight foam on usucha becomes harder to build.
The ORIGAMI Porcelain Matcha Whisk Stand is a small Mino ware porcelain rest, made in Japan, that holds a matcha whisk upright after use so the tines dry in their natural shape. In Japanese tea practice this tool is called a kusenaoshi, a whisk shaper.
How the ORIGAMI Whisk Stand Keeps a Chasen in Shape
The whisk sits inverted on the stand, handle up, with the tines resting around the porcelain form. Supported this way, they dry following the curve of the stand instead of pressing against a flat surface, and the inner and outer tines keep their spacing.
The stand is open at both ends, with a narrow opening at the top and a wider one at the base. This leaves room for air to reach the inside of the tines while they dry, rather than trapping moisture against the bamboo.
Mino Ware Porcelain
ORIGAMI makes the stand in Mino ware porcelain, part of a ceramic tradition with roughly 400 years of history in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture. The dense porcelain body is heat resistant to 120°C (248°F) and safe in the microwave and dishwasher, so it is easy to keep clean alongside your chawan and other tea tools.

Using the Whisk Stand
After whisking, rinse the chasen in warm water, shake off the excess, and set it handle up on the stand to air dry. Leave it there between sessions, whether you whisk usucha daily or knead koicha now and then, so the tines are already in shape when you next pick it up.
The dishwasher and microwave guidance applies to the porcelain stand only. The bamboo whisk itself is best rinsed by hand in warm water and left to dry on the stand.
The Stand
• Upright drying form: Holds the whisk handle up and tines down, so the tines dry around the porcelain rather than flattening against a counter.
• Open top and base: Leaves the center of the stand open so air can move through the tines as they dry.
• Mino ware porcelain body: Heat resistant to 120°C (248°F). Microwave and dishwasher safe.
The Porcelain Surface
Each stand is glazed porcelain fired in the kiln. Depending on the color and the production run, the surface can show fine texture or small pinholes, a natural result of how porcelain behaves during firing.
