The Origami Glass Katakuchi Matcha Bowl is a double-wall, heat-resistant glass bowl with a carefully designed pouring spout. Through the transparent glass, You can watch the whisk work through the walls, then pour the finished matcha into a cup or over milk without it running down the side.

Why Origami Made a Matcha Bowl in Glass

Matcha tools have traditionally been made from ceramic. Origami set that convention aside for this bowl and chose glass because it is lighter, cleaner, and visually neutral, so it fits a home kitchen, a café bar, or a tea setting without competing with the space around it.

Glass also changes what the whisking looks like. The movement of the chasen and the matcha building into suspension are visible from the side, so the preparation becomes part of the presentation before it is served. Ceramic, with its strong presence as a material, keeps that process hidden. The glass matcha bowl adds a more open and contemporary feel to the process.

The bowl is double-walled. The air layer between the inner and outer glass holds heat in the matcha, keeps the outside comfortable to hold, and reduces condensation on the outer wall, which keeps the surface around it dry. It also gives the matcha the look of floating inside the glass.

Whisking and Pouring with the Katakuchi Spout

The spout is shaped to connect whisking and pouring into one motion: finish the whisk, tilt, and pour. It reduces dripping and lets you pour comfortably down to the last of the bowl.

That makes it useful well beyond straight usucha. Whisk a concentrated base and pour it over steamed or cold milk for a matcha latte, much the way a barista builds a latte on a shot of espresso. The bowl holds 350ml when filled to the brim.

The Double-Wall Glass Body

•     Heat-resistant glass: Rated for thermal shock resistance of 120°C, suited to hot whisked matcha. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

•     Double-wall construction: An insulating air layer keeps matcha warm, keeps the outer wall comfortable to hold, and reduces condensation.

•     Sealed air chamber: The small opening left by the manufacturing process is sealed with silicone resin, keeping water out of the space between the walls.

Caring for the Glass

Glass keeps its clarity with simple daily care. Wash and dry the bowl soon after use to prevent matcha staining and odor transfer. Use a small amount of mild detergent with lukewarm water and a soft sponge or bottle brush, rinse thoroughly, then drain and air dry upside down. A paper towel helps dry the inside if needed.

If matcha staining builds up, dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda in lukewarm water, soak the bowl for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse and wash gently. Keep metal scrubbers and abrasive sponges away from the glass, and use it off direct flame and outside the microwave, oven, and dishwasher.
