The shot your recipe promises, prepared the same way shot after shot.
The Nucleus Coffee Tools NCD Pulse is an espresso distributor built for cafes where consistency is not a sometimes thing. It combines four-blade horizontal distribution with Pulse Vibration technology, addressing both surface-level spread and vertical puck density in a single, single-hand operation.
Puck preparation is one of the quietest sources of shot-to-shot variance. When coffee is unevenly distributed before tamping, channelling follows. The NCD Pulse works at that step, before the tamp, giving every barista on the team a more uniform starting point regardless of their experience level.
The result is a preparation tool that supports repeatable extraction at volume, and one that has found its way onto competition stages in multiple national and world championship placements.
Competition-Tested, Bar-Ready
The NCD Pulse has been used by baristas placing at national and world championship level across multiple countries, including 1st place at the 2025 US Barista Championship (Kay Cheon), 1st place at the 2026 Japanese Barista Championship (Keisuke Honma), and 5th place at the 2024 World Barista Championship (Junghwan Lim). It has also been used by podium finishers in the Czech, Swedish, Korean, Taiwan, Philippine, Bolivian, and Ecuadorian national championships.
Competition use validates what the spec sheet describes. The NCD Pulse performs under the conditions where precision matters most, which is the same thing it brings to a busy bar across every shift.
How It Works
Four blades spin horizontally across the surface of the dose, distributing coffee evenly across the top layer of the puck. Simultaneously, the Pulse Vibration technology works vertically through the grounds, improving density uniformity throughout the puck before tamping occurs. Both actions happen at once, in a single step, without adding time to the preparation sequence.
The blades are DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coated aluminium. The coating reduces ground retention and adds wear resistance. It also carries an anti-static property that reduces static discharge and the ground clumping that follows, which matters on a busy bar where grounds end up where they should not.
Height is adjustable from 7mm to 12mm depth into the basket, with millimetre-precision numbered markers. This accommodates different dose volumes and coffee densities without tool changes. The auto on/off activation means the unit starts when it contacts the portafilter and stops when lifted. Single-hand operation throughout.
Two Vibration Settings
Low and high vibration settings are selectable via buttons on top of the unit. Different roast levels, processing methods, and grind densities can respond differently to vibration intensity. The two settings allow the team to match the NCD Pulse to whatever coffee is on the bar.
Wireless and Charged for Service
The NCD Pulse runs on a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Battery life exceeds 1,000 distribution cycles on the high setting, which covers multiple full service days between charges. The USB-C Activation Dock charges the unit and stores it on the bench or bar top between uses. No power outlet is needed at the grinder station during service.
