The DragonFly Tri-Spin FS Flat Transit is a hybrid brewer built from four distinct design choices working together: a turning switch base, a ribbed flat-bottom interior, a three-point hollow base, and a woven ceramic exterior. Each does a different job, from managing brew style to keeping water flowing evenly through the grounds.
The turning switch base moves the dripper between hybrid and pour over brewing without a separate stand, and is built to hold its position cleanly through the switch rather than wobble. Twenty engineered ribs and the three-point hollow base carry the same extraction thinking found across DragonFly's Tri-Spin line, while the exterior takes its texture from a traditional Chinese bamboo-weaving pattern rather than a plain ceramic wall.
Part of the Tri-Spin Line, Recognized by the German Design Award
The Tri-Spin FS Flat Transit belongs to DragonFly's Tri-Spin series, also known by its Chinese name Xuanwu (玄武), after the mythological figure represented in the dripper's design language. The model was named a winner of the German Design Award 2026, recognized alongside other DragonFly coffee pieces for combining extraction control with a distinct visual identity.
DragonFly Design was founded in 1996 in Taipei by Jeff Dayu Shi [石 大宇], who has spent much of his career working with bamboo and other traditional Chinese materials. The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization named him one of its 100 Heroes of China's Bamboo Industry for that work, and his designs have won the German Design Award, Red Dot, and iF Design Award, among others. That same material focus carries into DragonFly's coffee equipment, including this dripper, where the exterior surface uses a woven bamboo-inspired texture applied to New Bone China rather than a plain ceramic wall.
How the Flat Transit Extracts
The dripper combines four structural elements: a switch base for changing brew style, a ribbed interior for even extraction, a hollow base for consistent flow, and a woven exterior that carries DragonFly's design language.
Switch Base
The turning switch base moves the dripper between two brewing modes: hybrid and standard pour over. Closing the base holds water in contact with the grounds for a steeping, hybrid-style brew, while opening it returns to a continuous pour over. The turning mechanism is designed to hold its position cleanly through the switch, without the vibration a looser fit can introduce.
Ribbed Interior
Twenty engineered ribs line the interior wall, holding the filter paper in place and limiting the deformation that can happen as it saturates during brewing. The wall angle is built to keep a brisk flow rate even with a finer grind, supporting higher extraction without losing the coffee's layered flavor in a fast brew.
Tri-Spin Hollow Base
At the bottom, a three-point hollow structure spreads the water's exit points instead of relying on one central outlet. This reduces the chance of center clogging and helps water pass through the coffee bed evenly, which matters most when brewing with a larger dose.
Bamboo Weave Pattern Exterior
The exterior wall carries a woven texture based on Wulong bamboo weaving, drawing on a craft tradition recognized as part of China's national intangible cultural heritage. Rendered here as an interlocking pattern across the New Bone China surface, the texture is decorative and also gives the dripper a more secure grip when handling it warm.
