slow pour supply special operations 2018

Glitter Cat Barista BootCamp edition

Slow Pour Supply was founded with the goal to support the coffee community by sponsoring talented baristas from marginalized and underrepresented groups who compete in regional events. Our goal is to empower and foster diversity in these competitions.

This year we are very proud to team up with Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp to launch our first special operations project: The Glitter Cat Barista Pitcher. This 15oz Matte Black pitcher with Sharp Spout is laser etched with the Glitter Cat Logo. All profits from the Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp sales go to the Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp.

We are very thankful for the support from the community. This season’s Glitter Cat x Slow Pour project has successfully generated $1,550 to support Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp.

About the Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp

Glitter Cat Barista Bootcamp (GCBB) is an all-expenses paid coffee competition training program focused on providing coaching to members of marginalized communities (LGBTQ+, women, racial/ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, and more) for the United States Coffee Championships to increase representation and diversity on the national and international coffee competition stages. GCBB fully sponsors trainees (travel, room, board, training, and materials) and utilizes seasoned and successful leaders in the coffee community to train and inspire new competitors. The 2018 instructors are Laila Ghambari (USBC 2014), Lem Butler (USBC 2016), Erika Vonie (Coffee Masters 2017), and Pete Licata (WBC 2013).

GCBB is the brainchild of T. Ben Fischer, the 2018 United States Barista Champion Runner-up.  T. Ben’s vision for GBBC is to create an inclusive educational event, in which attendees, who have historically lacked access to formal competition training, can learn from and be coached by this panel of the country’s foremost baristas.

The inaugural bootcamp took place in Philadelphia on October 23-25, 2018.

Words From T. Ben Fischer, founder of GCBB,

2018 United States Barista Champion Runner-up

One of the main reasons this bootcamp stands out is that, through sponsorship, we have an opportunity to provide free coaching for the ten selected trainees. This is unique in a world where barista competition training can top out at over $1500 per day! By having World and United States Barista Champions donating their time, and sponsors providing financial support to cover flights, housing, and food, and product sponsors to cover equipment and wares, we are able to create a training program like none other.

As part of our fundraising efforts we have teamed up with Slow Pour and have custom branded one of their most popular pitcher models: 15oz matte black with sharp spout.  These pitchers were designed for beauty and latte art and we cannot wait to see all of the Glitter Cat lattes being made with them! Slow Pour has graciously offered to have all profits from the pitchers to go directly to Glitter Cat to help with the 2018 Bootcamp and future Bootcamps (which will include training for judges and Brewers Competition!). There is also an option for you to add an extra donation on top of the cost of the pitcher.

Thank you so much for supporting not only us, but the future of coffee! Remember, that when in doubt:

Less bitter … More glitter,

T. Ben Fischer
